Beach House
The existing eponymous bungalow from the 1950's was sunken into and surrounded on all sides by dunes, offering no views of the sea, it took no advantage from its idyllic location. The brief was to reverse this situation and make full use of the site, vistas and context. The house is a homage to the historical ‘international style’ homes that dot the Dublin coastline.
The response involved conversion of the existing bungalow to a basement and constructing a white solid and glass box above. The result is a modernist composition that sits atop the dunes and offers an enviable panorama of the north Dublin coast including Ireland's Eye and Lambay Island. The material palette reflects the minimalist aesthetic sought by the clients and uses render, extensive glazing and burnt larch cladding.
